Neapolitans - Pictures - General Information
Neapolitan Mastiffs are working dogs according to the classification by the AKC. They can weigh about 110-150 pounds, and more. A greater weight is even preferable provided a dog is well-balanced. Males are generally larger than females.
The Neapolitan Mastiff is heavy-boned, with a broad back and a massive head. The neck is strong and muscular, as well as the rest of the body. Powerful jaws meet in a scissors or pincer bite. The lips are loose, revealing flews. Eyes that are set wide apart are darker in color than the coat. Ears are usually cropped, as well as the tail.
Neapolitan Mastiff's coat is double and hard. Accepted colors are blue, black, and chocolate. All of them can be brindle. White hairs are allowed on the chest and stomach. All other white markings not mentioned in the standard should be considered as a fault.
Life Span: Neapolitan Mastiffs do not live long. The average life span is 8-10 years.

Neapolitan Mastiffs are said to be gentle dogs and devoted companions. They are generally good with strangers unless disturbed. The Neapolitan Mastiff is said to be a one man dog. It adores its owner and readily obeys if treated properly. Neapolitan Mastiffs will not harm children intentionally. They can do OK together on the condition children are taught some ways of treating a huge dog.
Neapolitan Mastiffs should be trained to be tolerant with other pets. Good results are achieved through close interaction of Neapolitan Mastiffs and other pets from an early age. Occasional run-ins can occur between Neapolitan Mastiffs by reason of territorial or sexual claims.

Neapolitan Mastiffs are not recommended for inexperienced owners. They require much care and attention. A Neapolitan Mastiff in a house is additional responsibility. These large dogs need much space, and a nice bed. They should sleep on soft surfaces to avoid calluses.
Neapolitan Mastiffs can also live in a kennel. The main thing to keep in mind is that the breed cannot do long without interaction. It is very devoted to its owner and likes to accompany him always. When left alone for a long time, the Neapolitan Mastiff ends to become destructive.

Neapolitan Mastiffs are short-coated dogs that do not need much brushing. A few short sessions a week will suffice to keep the dog's coat fit. Dead hairs are removed in the process of brushing, which helps control shedding. Neapolitan Mastiffs drool, which will demand efforts on wiping its face regularly, especially after meals.
